25 Inspiring Travel Quotes

I’m a huge sucker for inspirational quotes. Similar to a good book or movie, they always make me want to go mountain climbing, or jet skiing, or any other extreme sport that highly motivated people enjoy doing during their spare time. While I have yet to do either (soon, I promise!), here are 25 of my most favourite quotes on traveling to inspire and motivate. After all, life is too short to sit around (unless you are reading my blog of course).

“Adventure is worthwhile.”
Amelia Earhart
“I am not one but several.
I am like Europe, I am all of that!”
– L’Auberge Espagnole
“She was already thinking of herself
as a kind of expatriate…not
smothered by what she believed to
be America’s puritanical and
materialistic culture, which she
had little patience for.
She saw herself more a European
soul, in tune with the thinkers and
artists she felt expressed her
tragic, romantic, freethinking view
of life.”
– Vicky Christina Barcelona
“Man cannot discover new oceans
unless he has the courage to lose sights of the shore.”
– Andre Gide
“I never travel without my diary.
One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”
– Oscar Wilde

“The world is a book
and those who do not travel read only one page.”
– St. Augustine
“I could spend my life arriving each evening in a new city.”
– Bill Bryson
“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go.
But no matter, the road is life.”
– Jack Kerouac
“To have never taken a solitary road trip across country?
I mean everybody’s got to take a road trip, at least once in their lives.
 Just you and some music.”
– Elizabethtown
“Twenty years from now
you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do
than by the ones you did do…
Explore. Dream. Discover.”

– Mark Twain
“Don’t tell me how educated you are,
tell me how much you have travelled.”
– The Prophet Mohammed
“We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfilment.”
– Hilaire Belloc
“A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary, whether he travels or not;
but a man of superior talent (which I cannot deny myself to be without being impious)
will go to pieces if he remains forever in the same place.”
– Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
“Journeys end in lovers meeting.”
– William Shakespeare
“We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.”
– Anais Nin
“I travel not to go anywhere, but to go.

I travel for travel’s sake.

The great affair is to move.
– Robert Louis Stevenson
“This song explains why I’m leaving home to become a stewardess.”
Almost Famous (on Simon and Garfunkel’s America)
“Kathy,” I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
“Michigan seems like a dream to me now”
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I’ve gone to look for America
– Simon And Garfunkel’s America
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure.

There is no end to the adventures we can have

if only we seek them with our eyes open.
– Jawaharial Nehru
Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, ’cause “the West is the best.” And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the Great White North. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild.
– Alexander Supertramp May 1992 (Into the Wild)
“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads.
Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.”

but that’s not what ships are built for.”

I love these, and your blog in general. 🙂 My favorite is the line from Into The Wild, that's by far my favorite movie. So inspiring. I love the one from John A. Shedd, too.
